2014 China Auto Forum Held in Beijing

2014 China Auto Forum, the focus of the world’s attention was held in Beijing on April 21st and 22nd. China Auto Forum is a top and high-end auto forum in China, held by MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), co-organized by CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers), supported by OICA (International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers) and fully participated by World Economic Forum (Davos). It is held every April in the course of Beijing (or Shanghai) International Automobile Industry Exhibition. Its aim is to forge a top-class platform for discussion on industrial development, as well as communication and dialogue between China and the world auto industries, between Chinese government and all sectors of automotive industry and between the auto industry and other sectors of the society. Thanks to success of 2011, 2012 and 2013 forums, China Auto Forum has developed into the “Davos” Forum in China auto industry, and the most important platform gathering world auto leaders, domestic and foreign elites and senior government officials to exchange and communicate, with the characteristics of “high-end orientation, down-to-earth spirit and effectiveness”.

Closed-Door Summit

More than 1000 domestic and foreign guests attended this forum, including Mr. Miao Wei, Minister of MIIT, Mr. Chen Bin, Chief of Department of Industry of NDRC, Mr. Zhang Xiangmu, Chief of Equipment Department of MIIT, Mr. Wang Fuchang, Inspector of Equipment Department of MIIT, Mr. Lu Xi, Deputy Chief of Industry Policy of MIIT, Mr. Chen Jiachang, Deputy Chief of Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization of MOST, Mr. Hui Boyang, Deputy Chief of Department of Quality Management of AQSIQ, Mr. Xu Jianyi, Chairman of CAAM and China FAW Group Corporation, Mr. Dong Yang, Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CAAM, Mr. Zhu Fushou, General Manager of Dongfeng Motor, Mr. Zhang Xiyong, General Manager of BAIC, Mr. An Jin, President of JAC, Mr. Yin Tongyue, President of Chery, Mr. Wang Chuanfu, President of BYD, Mr. Lu Weiding, President of Wanxiang Group, Mr. Zhang Jinhua, Secretary General of SAE-China, Mr. Li Qingwen, President of China Automotive News, Mr. Chen Wei, President of CINN, Mr. Patrick Blain, President of OICA, Mr. Yves van der Straaten, Secretary General of OICA, Mr. John B. Moavenzadeh, Senior Director of World Economic Forum as well as some domestic medias, the presidents (secretary general) of automobile associations of other countries, APEC officials, other related government officials, experts, scholars and representatives of several Member Units of CAAM.
        This year’s forum was composed of three major parts, the Closed-Door Summit, Main Forum and Sub-Forums. During the forum, participants jointly discussed issues on new strategies, ways and hopes for auto industry development in China and the world, looked ahead into the future of China and the world auto industries, and explored direction for harmonious development of the auto industry and the society under new economic transition.
        Hosted by Mr. Dong Yang, the Closed-Door Summit of 2014 China Auto Forum was held on the afternoon of April 21st. About a hundred senior leaders were invited, including leaders of major auto manufacturers both at home and abroad, heads of auto-related agencies and some related government officials.

On the morning of April 22nd, Main Forum was held. Mr. Miao Wei, Mr. Xu Jianyi and Mr. Patrick Blain delivered speeches respectively.

On the forum, Mr. Dong Yang gave a keynote speech entitled on Sustainable Development of Chinese Automotive Industry. 

Mr. John B. Moavenzadeh, Senior Director of World Economic Forum delivered a speech entitled on “Development Status and Trends of Global Auto Industry”.

Mr. Anup P. Bandivadekar, Project Leader of APEC Clean Transportation Committee made a speech on “Development Opportunities for New Energy Vehicles in Asia-Pacific”.

Mr. Zhang Xiyong, General Manager of BAIC, delivered a speech on “Internet Leading Industrial Upgrading to Open New Path for Auto Development”.  

Hosted by Mr. Dong Yang, the interaction of main forum invited representatives from OICA, Alliance, CCFA, JAMA, KAMA and SIAM to participate in. In this session, the participants carried out deep discusses and exchanges on issues concerning the development of world automotive industry as well as the current situation of their own country. In addition, they raised some advices and suggestions about the development and prospect of Chinese automotive industry under globalization.
 

On that afternoon, nine sub-forums were held at the same time. They were Sub-Forum One: Automotive Industrial Development Planning and Auto Parts Distribution; Sub-Forum Two: Ascension of Chinese Auto Brand; Sub-Forum Three: Building a Harmonious and Green Auto Society; Sub-Forum Four: Auto Market Development and Transportation Solutions; Sub-Forum Five: Internet and Future Auto Industrial Development; Sub-Forum Six: Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization of Commercial Vehicles; Sub-Forum Seven: Vehicle Equipment under Industrial Transformation and Upgrading; Sub-Forum Eight: Industrial Transformation and Upgrading and Financial Innovation; and an independent sub-forum held by World Economic Forum which focused on automated driving, urban transportation and trade.
