Among the top 10 auto brands by the Sept. volume of China-made PVs registered in Shanghai, Roewe, BYD, and NIO were the only three solely owned by Chinese indigenous automakers. Notably, NIO was the only one from Chinese NEV startup. The most popular brand was Tesla, outselling the runner-up Volkswagen by 327 vehicles.

Of the top 10 auto brands, Nissan was the unique one with only oil-fueled vehicle models for sale. Tesla and NIO cracked the top 10 rankings as pure electric vehicle marques. The other seven all had NEV models for sales. It is noteworthy that NEVs accounted for up to 96.5% of BYD’s Sept. registrations in Shanghai.

On the list of top 10 models by Sept. insurance volume in Shanghai, both the champion and runner-up were from Tesla. With 5,190 vehicles registered, the Model Y held a safe lead over the other models. Besides, the VW ID.4 X ranked 4th with only full-electric vehicles sold as well.

In September, there were 26,468 locally-built new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs) registered in Shanghai, representing an 86.8% month-on-month hike. The Sept. registrations consisted of 19,740 BEVs and 6,055 PHEVs (including 673 REEVs).

A total of six NEV models recorded over 1,000 units of Sept. registrations in Shanghai. The top 3 only had all-electric versions for sales. Four models from BYD, namely, the Qin PLUS, the Han, the Song PLUS, and the Tang, were listed on the top 10 NEV models list.
