In 2015, the production and sales of passenger cars reached 21,079,400 and 21,146,300 units respectively, up 5.8% and 7.3% year on year, 2.5 percentage points and 2.6 percentage points higher than the overall growth of automobiles. Their growth rates decreased 4.4 percentage points and 2.6 percentage points comparing with last year. The passenger cars exceeded 20 million for the first time. As the main part of auto products in China, the proportion of passenger cars further enhanced this year, reaching 86%.
As for the whole year by type, SUV continued a high-speed growth, of which the production and sales were up 49.7% and 52.4%. MPV also enjoyed a growth, with an increase of 7.7% and 10.1% in production and sales respectively. As for cars, the production and sales witnessed decline, down 6.8% and 5.3% respectively. Moreover, the situation of crossed passenger cars was even worse, of which such figures decreased by 16.9% and 17.5%.
In terms of the whole-year sales, the fourth quarter enjoyed a significant growth. The sales from June to August were lower than that of the same period last year. Such situation took turn for better since October, which strongly increased.
This year, the sales of passenger cars with engine capacity of 1.6L and below reached 14,508,600 units, up 10.38% year on year, higher than the overall growth of the passenger cars, accounting for 68.6% of the total sales of passenger cars. The contributive degree for the new purchase-tax-halving policy reached 124.6%, driving the sales of vehicles with small engine displacement and pushing forward energy saving and emission reduction.
