The sales and production of passenger cars enjoyed rapid growth while the market share of Chinese brand continued to decline

In 2013, the production and sales of passenger cars were 18,085,200 and 17,928,900 units respectively, up 16.5% and 15.7% year on year. Their growth rates enjoyed an increase of 9.3 percentage points and 8.6 percentage points from a year earlier. Both sales and production hit new records.
        This year’s growth was mainly driven by cars and SUVs, of which the sales of cars achieved 12,009,700 units, increased by 11.8% from the previous year, accounting for 47.2% in total passenger cars’ growth; the sales of SUVs were 2,988,800 units, up 49.4% year on year, accounting for 36.9% in total. In addition, MPV also enjoyed a fast growth. However, both the sales and production of cross passenger cars were lower than that of last year.
        In 2013, the sales of Chinese brand passenger cars were 7,222,000 units, up 11.4% year on year, accounting for 40.3% in total sales volume of the passenger cars. Its market share continued to decline, falling 1.6 percentage points from a year earlier. As for the foreign brands, the sales of German, Japanese, American, Korea and French brands accounted for 18.8%, 16.4%, 12.4%, 8.8% and 3.1% in total sales of passenger cars respectively. As for their market shares comparing with last year, except that Japanese brand witnessed a slight decrease, all the others increased to varying degrees, especially for American brand.
